RESISTANCE MECANIQUE<\/h3>\n

La chaux, une fois durcie, peut procurer une r\u00e9sistance suffisante pour permettre la construction d\u2019une ma\u00e7onnerie traditionnelle, m\u00eame si elle serait complexe et haute comme une cath\u00e9drale.<\/p>\n

La chaux a une autre propri\u00e9t\u00e9 qui la rend unique par rapport \u00e0 des mat\u00e9riaux similaires : sa flexibilit\u00e9.\u00a0 Un mortier \u00e0 base de chaux peut absorber certaines d\u00e9formations dans les constructions de mur, ceci gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 son \u00e9lasticit\u00e9<\/strong>, mais \u00e9galement gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 sa r\u00e9action<\/strong> lente<\/strong> (carbonatation), qui peut parfois durer plusieurs ann\u00e9es.\u00a0 Le mortier a notamment la capacit\u00e9 de pouvoir se r\u00e9parer par lui-m\u00eame.<\/p>\n

Cette r\u00e9action lente a \u00e9galement comme cons\u00e9quence qu\u2019il n\u2019y a en principe pas de risque de fissuration durant la r\u00e9action.\u00a0 Les avantages seront par exemple qu\u2019une ma\u00e7onnerie ne n\u00e9cessitera pas de joints de dilatation, et qu\u2019un enduit ne devrait pas \u00eatre pr\u00e9vu d\u2019une trame de renforcement.<\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s la premi\u00e8re r\u00e9action (hydraulique) on obtient d\u00e9j\u00e0 un mortier qui est suffisamment durci et \u00e9tanche (mais toujours perm\u00e9able \u00e0 la vapeur).\u00a0 Il s\u2019agit donc d\u2019un malentendu quand quelqu\u2019un pr\u00e9tend que la chaux a la propri\u00e9t\u00e9 de se d\u00e9laver d\u2019un mur.<\/p>\n

Que la chaux a une r\u00e9sistance m\u00e9canique dans une construction est ind\u00e9niable \u00a0comme le prouvent des \u00e9tudes r\u00e9centes effectu\u00e9es dans des r\u00e9gions soumises \u00e0 des tremblements de terre.\u00a0 Il y a \u00e9t\u00e9 constat\u00e9 que toutes les constructions comprenant des \u00e9l\u00e9ments en b\u00e9ton et des finitions au ciment avaient beaucoup plus souffert que des b\u00e2timents \u00e9rig\u00e9s uniquement avec de la chaux.\u00a0 Les vibrations provenant des tremblements \u00e9taient en effet absorb\u00e9es, gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la flexibilit\u00e9 de la chaux.<\/p>\n
